The most-quoted Reddit marketing statistics contradict each other because they are not measuring the same thing. One 2026 study of 30 million sources names Reddit the single most-cited domain in AI answers. Another, published by the same outlet, found forums account for 2% of AI citations. Both are correct. They use different denominators, and the difference decides whether a B2B SaaS company should invest in Reddit at all.
This is not an edge case. Across audience reach, AI citation share, paid performance, and marketer-reported value, the headline Reddit figure is never one measurement. It is several incompatible ones produced by different methodological choices. This article names each fracture and demonstrates it.
Fracture one: “Reddit users” has at least four incompatible definitions
Reddit reported the following in its second quarter 2026 earnings release for the quarter ended 30 June 2026.
| Metric | Q2 2026 | Change YoY |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly active uniques, global | 514.6 million | +24% |
| Daily active uniques, global | 130.3 million | +18% |
| Daily active uniques, US | 53.2 million | +6% |
| Logged-in daily active uniques, global | 52.6 million | +7% |
| Logged-in daily active uniques, US | 23.1 million | +1% |
| Logged-out daily active uniques, global | 77.7 million | +27% |
Every one of those numbers is Reddit’s own audited disclosure. They describe the same platform on the same day and differ by a factor of twenty-two.

Figure 1. Reddit’s disclosed audience metrics, Q2 2026.
Two derivations matter for anyone planning a campaign.
Logged-out users are the majority of Reddit’s daily audience. 77.7 million of 130.3 million global daily uniques were logged out, or 59.6%. A logged-out visitor arriving from a search engine cannot join a subreddit, cannot be reached by a community strategy, and in most cases reads one thread and leaves.
US logged-in daily audience is 17.7% of the headline figure. 23.1 million divided by 130.3 million. A B2B SaaS company selling to US buyers who plans against “130 million daily users” is overstating its addressable audience by 5.6x.
A fourth definition comes from survey data rather than platform telemetry. Pew Research Center’s Americans’ Social Media Use 2025, fielded 5 February to 18 June 2025 among 5,022 US adults with a margin of error of ±1.9 percentage points, found 26% of US adults say they ever use Reddit, up from 24% in 2024 and 22% in 2023. Among internet users specifically the figure is 27%.
“Ever use” is a far weaker claim than “daily active unique.” Pew asked how frequently respondents use Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and X. It did not ask that question about Reddit. No comparable public survey estimate of daily Reddit use among US adults exists in that dataset.
Pew’s demographic breakdown is the part most relevant to B2B SaaS. Roughly four in ten US adults with at least a college degree report using Reddit, against 28% of those with some college and 15% of those with a high school diploma or less. Reddit skews toward the educated, male, younger end of the population, which overlaps meaningfully with technical buying committees and poorly with many other segments.
One further complication arrives in the next reporting period. Reddit has confirmed that Q2 2026 was the final quarter in which logged-in and logged-out daily uniques will be reported separately. The distinction that separates the search-referred audience from the direct audience disappears from public disclosure in the quarter it became the central question.
Fracture two: Reddit ranks first among domains and near-last among source categories
Two studies published by Search Engine Land within six months of each other reached opposite conclusions.
Peec AI, March 2026. An analysis of 30 million sources cited across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews in the US found Reddit the most-cited domain overall, ranking first or second on every platform tested. YouTube, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, and Forbes completed the top five.
Yext, October 2025. An analysis of 6.8 million citations across 1.6 million queries on ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity found 86% of AI citations came from sources brands already control. First-party websites accounted for 44%, listings 42%, reviews and social 8%, and forums 2%.

Figure 2. The same phenomenon counted two ways.
These findings are not in conflict. They count different objects.
Peec ranked individual domains. Yext grouped citations into source categories. “Forums” is a category containing Reddit, Quora, Stack Overflow, and thousands of smaller boards. “Brand websites” is a category containing millions of domains, none of which individually ranks anywhere near Reddit. Reddit can simultaneously be the largest single domain in AI answers and sit inside a category that supplies a small share of total citations. Nothing has to be wrong for both to be true.
The practical consequence is a planning error that recurs constantly. A marketer who reads the Peec finding concludes Reddit is where AI visibility is won. A marketer who reads the Yext finding concludes the company website is. The first is optimising against a domain ranking, the second against a category share. Neither number tells a specific B2B SaaS company what share of its category’s AI answers cite Reddit.
Two caveats sharpen this further. Yext’s sample covered four intent types across retail, finance, healthcare, and food service, which are location-anchored consumer categories where listings dominate structurally. Peec noted that in the hotel category, Booking.com and Airbnb outrank Reddit entirely. Both studies are accurate descriptions of the segments they sampled and weak predictors outside them.
Fracture three: “Share of AI citations” is three different metrics wearing one name
The most widely circulated Reddit AI statistic is that Reddit appears in 40.1% of AI citations. The figure comes from Semrush’s AI Mode comparison study, based on more than 150,000 LLM citations as of June 2025, and reproduced by Visual Capitalist.
The full top-20 table is the proof that the metric is misread.
| Rank | Domain | Citation frequency |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | reddit.com | 40.1% |
| 2 | wikipedia.org | 26.3% |
| 3 | youtube.com | 23.5% |
| 4 | google.com | 23.3% |
| 5 | yelp.com | 21.0% |
| 6 | facebook.com | 20.0% |
| 7 | amazon.com | 18.7% |
| 8 | tripadvisor.com | 12.5% |
| 9 | mapbox.com | 11.3% |
| 10 | openstreetmap.com | 11.3% |
| 15 | linkedin.com | 5.9% |
| 16 | quora.com | 4.6% |
Those twenty percentages sum to 273.7%. A share of a total cannot exceed 100%. What Semrush measured is the percentage of AI responses in which a domain appears at least once, not the percentage of all citation links pointing to that domain.

Figure 3. Citation frequency is presence per response, not share of total citations.
The two are routinely quoted as if interchangeable. They are not, and the gap between them is roughly an order of magnitude. A domain appearing once in four out of ten answers can still supply a low single-digit share of total citation volume, because a typical AI answer cites many sources and most of them are not Reddit.
A third definition, rank position, adds no percentage at all. Peec published an ordered list precisely because rank is robust while percentages depend on the counting rule.
Three metrics, three numbers, one name. Any Reddit statistic quoted without its counting rule is unusable for forecasting.
Volatility compounds the problem. Reddit’s citation share on ChatGPT fell sharply during September 2025 following a ranking change, and Peec explicitly warns that both Google and ChatGPT have pulled back from Reddit before and could again. A brand whose AI visibility rests on Reddit threads has outsourced that visibility to another company’s ranking decisions. The same reasoning applies to any single channel, which is why SERPsculpt builds visibility across search, AI answers, and third-party comparison surfaces simultaneously rather than concentrating it in one place.
Fracture four: Reddit’s ad performance figures are growth rates and selected results, not benchmarks
Reddit’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter reported the following advertising metrics, as covered by PPC Land:
- Conversion volume grew more than 100% year over year
- Click volume grew more than 30% year over year
- Click-through rates rose more than 40% year over year
- Advertiser count grew more than 70% year over year
- Eleven of fifteen industry verticals grew more than 50%
- Revenue from Reddit Max, the automated campaign type, grew more than 150% sequentially
Every figure above is a rate of change. None is a level. A click-through rate up 40% year over year tells a prospective advertiser nothing about what click-through rate to expect, because the base is undisclosed. Growth rates measured off small bases are the least transferable statistic in performance marketing, and Reddit’s advertiser base is growing fastest in exactly the mid-market and small-business segments where bases are smallest.
The return-on-ad-spend claims illustrate the same problem more starkly. Two third-party studies were disclosed in the same quarter.
| Study | Finding | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Attain and Circana | 1.5x higher ROAS than other social platforms on average | Consumer packaged goods, US and Western Europe |
| TransUnion | Approximately 7x higher ROAS, most efficient paid social channel | Retail, EMEA |

Figure 4. Two studies, one metric name, 4.7x apart.
The two figures are 4.7x apart. They share a metric name and nothing else: different verticals, different regions, different measurement partners, different comparison sets. Neither was measured in B2B SaaS. Quoting either as “Reddit delivers 7x ROAS” strips away every condition that produced the number.
Named advertiser results carry the same caveat. Reddit disclosed that Lenovo achieved 40% higher purchase value using Max campaigns and that online pharmacy DocMorris recorded 20% lower cost per install. Disclosed case results are selected results. No platform publishes the accounts where automation underperformed.
Reddit’s own averages are more useful than any of these, and Reddit reported one: Max campaigns entered beta in January 2026 with 17% lower cost per action. That is a platform-wide comparison against a defined alternative, which is what a benchmark requires.
Fracture five: platform-reported adoption and marketer-reported value move in opposite directions
Reddit’s advertiser count grew more than 70% year over year in Q2 2026. Survey data from the same period describes a channel most B2B marketers do not use.
The Content Marketing Institute’s B2B research for 2025, fielded between 25 June and 16 August 2024 among 980 B2B marketers, found only 15% use Reddit at all and only 6% increased their use of it over the prior twelve months. In the same survey, 85% named LinkedIn the platform delivering the best value.
The technology-sector cut of that research, covering 274 technology marketers, was harsher. Three percent said Reddit delivers the best organic value, against 93% for LinkedIn. Seventy-eight percent said they do not use Reddit.
Both pictures are accurate. Reddit’s advertiser count is growing quickly from a small base, and Reddit’s paid product is not the same thing as organic community participation, which is what the CMI question asked about. A B2B marketer can rationally buy Reddit ads while rating Reddit’s organic value at zero.
There is a measurement discontinuity worth flagging. The 2026 edition of the CMI B2B study, fielded 24 June to 14 August 2025 among 1,015 B2B marketers, dropped the organic social platform value question entirely. The time series that would have shown whether B2B marketers changed their view of Reddit after its AI citation surge does not continue. Any 2026 claim about B2B marketer sentiment toward Reddit is extrapolating from 2024 fieldwork.
Fracture six: Reddit’s AI visibility and Reddit’s search dependency are the same asset
The case for Reddit as a marketing channel rests substantially on its search and AI visibility. That visibility is not stable, and Reddit’s own management said so.
On the Q2 2026 earnings call, Reddit described search referral traffic as choppy and volatile, particularly late in the quarter, and attributed a shortfall in daily user growth to referral declines offsetting product gains. US daily uniques declined sequentially. Reddit shares fell 12.49% in after-hours trading despite a revenue beat of roughly $74 million.
Chief Executive Steve Huffman’s framing was direct: direct app users are worth multiples more than search referral traffic, and Reddit is not building for drive-by traffic.
That statement is straightforward for Reddit and awkward for brands. A company pursuing Reddit visibility as an SEO or AI-answer play is buying exposure to precisely the traffic Reddit itself values least and describes as volatile. The underlying pressure is industry-wide: Ahrefs research published in February 2026 found AI Overviews correlate with a 58% reduction in click-through rates for top-ranking pages, and a randomised study released in June 2026 measured a 39.8% cut in outbound organic clicks.
Reddit’s structural position is unusual because it is both beneficiary and supplier. It gains visibility from AI answers while licensing the content those answers are built on, and the licensing agreements with Google and OpenAI face renewal on no publicly confirmed timeline.
What the fractures mean for B2B SaaS planning
Six specific questions replace the single question “does Reddit marketing work.”
Which audience does the tactic reach? A subreddit participation strategy reaches logged-in users. In the US that is 23.1 million daily, not 130.3 million. A strategy aimed at ranking Reddit threads in Google reaches logged-out visitors, the 59.6% majority, who are the most volatile segment on the platform.
Which citation metric applies to the category? The global domain ranking is not the category ranking. Peec’s own hotel example shows a vertical where Reddit does not lead. B2B SaaS categories where G2 and vendor documentation carry the buying question may behave the same way, and Perplexity’s B2B top five already includes G2.
Is the performance figure a level or a rate? Reddit’s disclosed advertising metrics are almost entirely rates. Planning a media budget against a growth rate produces a forecast with no floor.
Was the benchmark measured in a comparable segment? A CPG ROAS multiple from Western Europe does not forecast B2B SaaS pipeline in North America.
Does the survey evidence still describe the present? CMI’s Reddit adoption figures come from 2024 fieldwork and the question has since been retired.
What happens if Reddit’s search position moves? It has moved before, sharply, and Reddit’s disclosure of the metric that made the exposure measurable ends this quarter.
The pattern generalises well beyond Reddit. Bottom-of-funnel visibility is won by measuring the specific surfaces a specific buyer uses before they contact a vendor, which is the same discipline behind SERPsculpt’s approach to B2B SaaS content that converts and behind its B2B customer retention benchmarks. A number without its denominator is not evidence. It is a headline.

Methodology and verification
Every numeric claim in this article was verified by direct retrieval of the primary source document rather than an aggregator summary. Figures are classified as follows.
Verified by direct primary fetch
Reddit Q2 2026 operating and financial metrics (Reddit, Inc. earnings release, 30 July 2026). Pew Research Center survey estimates and methodology (Americans’ Social Media Use 2025, published 20 November 2025). Content Marketing Institute B2B survey figures for the 2025 and 2026 editions. Reported secondary
Reddit Q2 2026 shareholder letter advertising metrics, third-party ROAS studies from Attain, Circana, and TransUnion, named advertiser results, and Reddit Max performance figures, all sourced through PPC Land’s coverage of Reddit’s disclosures. The Ahrefs AI Overviews click-through finding and the June 2026 randomised click study are cited as reported by PPC Land rather than from the underlying publications.
Rejected and excluded
A widely circulated claim that Reddit accounts for approximately 40% of multi-engine AI citations was traced to an aggregator synthesis with no independently verifiable methodology and is not used. A claim that Reddit accounts for 46.7% of Perplexity citations could not be traced to a retrievable primary source and is not used. Profound citation-share figures quoted at 6.6% for Perplexity and 2.2% for Google AI Overviews appear only in third-party summaries in the sources reviewed; the underlying study was not retrieved and the figures are therefore excluded rather than reported. An attempt to retrieve original Reddit search-visibility data through the Ahrefs API did not complete authorisation, and no figures from that attempt appear in this article.
Reddit financial and operating figures are as of the quarter ended 30 June 2026. Survey figures carry their fieldwork dates, which in the case of Content Marketing Institute data precede publication by roughly fourteen months.
